Values and Pedagogy in Science Education: Integration from an Islamic Perspective
A joint public lecture between Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Centre of Islamic Studies (SOASCIS), Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) and Faculty of Science (FOS) entitled “Values and Pedagogy in Science Education: Integration from an Islamic Perspective.” was held on 16th April 2014. This public lecture was organised in commemoration of 100 years of formal education in Brunei. The speakers were Professor Datuk Dr. Osman Bin Bakar and Professor Glenn Hardaker and responded by Dr. Hj Ibrahim Bin Haji Abdul Rahman. Further details can be found here.
Increasing Disaster and Trauma Counselling Capacity Across Southeast-Asia
April first, 2013, saw the approval of a grant written by Louis Downs to support an international team with a startup grant from UBD. The ultimate goal has been to research and develop trauma and disaster mental health teams. Toward that ultimate goal, the project was planned to create an instrument for measuring trauma related stress that is more sensitive than present instruments and to use collection of data in disaster prone zones as a pretext for cementing working relationships for a larger project of developing and training trauma teams and affecting policy in relation to disasters in the Ring of Fire and beyond, across Asia. Engaging Teachers in Action Research to Develop 21st Century Teaching Practices and Learning Outcomes (21CTL)
Teachers reported on their participation in this Brunei Research Council funded research project at the Colloquium held in the Senate Room on June 4. With an invited audience of school Principals and Ministry of Education Officers, they shared their experience of engagement with cycles of action research to develop 21st century teaching practices and learning outcomes for their students.
